Waiting list
Privacy Policy
How we handle the data of the people on the Yambrella waiting list.
Looking for our terms? View Terms
This is an English convenience translation of the Hungarian privacy notice. For users living in Hungary, the Hungarian version governs if the two versions differ.
The Yambrella dating service has not launched yet. Until it does, you can join the waiting list on yambrella.com and hu.yambrella.com: you can see how many people near you you could date, and we will let you know when we open. This notice describes what data of yours we process in connection with the waiting list, why, for how long, and what rights you have.
The processing of data by the dating service once it launches is covered by the Privacy notice; it applies to you from the moment you register. The conditions of the waiting-list rewards are set out in the Waiting list – terms of participation.
0. Summary
- Two steps. First you tell us who you are and who you are looking for, and we show you how many potential partners you would have in your area. We do not save this. Only if you then sign up do we store your name, your email address and your earlier answers.
- Sensitive data. Your gender and the gender of the partner you are looking for together reveal your sexual orientation, so we store them only with your explicit consent.
- Emails. When you sign up, we send you a welcome email with your personal invite link, and we let you know when Yambrella launches. We do not send newsletters. You pass your invite link on yourself: we do not write to your friends, and we do not ask for their addresses.
- Unsubscribing = deletion. There is an unsubscribe link at the bottom of every email we send. If you unsubscribe, we delete your entry immediately and permanently; only a statistical record without your name remains (country, town, gender, how many days you were on the list).
- At launch we do not pass your waiting-list data to anyone: it stays in the same database. If you register, your gender, the gender you are looking for and the age range you are looking for pre-fill your profile, and you receive your reward.
- We do not use cookies on this site.
- Your rights: access, rectification, erasure, objection, withdrawal of consent; a complaint to the Hungarian National Authority for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (NAIH) or legal action in court.
1. Who controls your data? (The controller)
The controller is to be completed (to be completed; hereinafter "Yambrella" or "we").
| Registered office | to be completed |
| Postal address | to be completed |
| Company registration number | to be completed |
| General email address | to be completed |
| Data protection questions, data subject requests | to be completed |
| Data protection officer | to be completed |
2. How does the waiting list work?
2.1 Step one: "Who could I date?"
You enter:
- your gender (woman, man, non-binary, other);
- your age (between 18 and 99);
- your country and your town;
- if you wish, the gender of the partner you are looking for (if you do not enter it, we count partners of any gender);
- the age range you are looking for.
We look up your town in a list of towns held in our own database (the source of the town data is the public GeoNames database); for this we do not send any data to any external provider. We then count how many people who have signed up would be a mutual match with you (section 6), and we show you the result, together with the reward you would get if you signed up.
We save nothing in this step. We do not ask for your name or your email address, we use your answers only to calculate the number, and we do not keep them after sending the response.
2.2 Step two: signing up
If you want to sign up, you enter:
- your name (what we should call you);
- your email address;
- and you tick the consent boxes (sections 4 and 5). The checkboxes are not ticked in advance.
At this point we also store your answers from step one and, if you arrived through someone's invite link, their invite code and whether your sign-up earns them a Premium or a Plus month (section 8). We take the language (Hungarian or English) from the address of the page on which you signed up.
You do not need to confirm your email address: the sign-up takes effect immediately. If someone else entered your email address, you can delete all the data with one click using the unsubscribe link at the bottom of the welcome email.
3. What data do we store about you?
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| Name, email address | so that we can write to you, and find your entry at launch |
| Language | so that we send our emails in your language |
| Country, the town name you typed and the name of the town we matched it to, the coordinates of the town's centre | to count potential partners (within a 50 km radius) |
| Gender, age, gender looked for, age range looked for | to count potential partners mutually, and to pre-fill your profile at launch |
| The time and scope of your consent | to prove your consent |
| The match count shown when you signed up, the reward level, the size of the lasting discount | so that at launch you receive exactly the reward promised when you signed up |
| Your own invite code; if someone invited you, their code, and whether your sign-up earns them a Premium or a Plus month | to keep a record of the invitation reward (sections 7 and 8) |
| Unsubscribe identifier, registration identifier | to let you unsubscribe without logging in, and to make your personal registration link work at launch |
| The Premium and Plus months due to you at launch for your invitations | to keep a record of the invitation reward |
| When you registered, and which account your entry is linked to | to hand over the reward at launch |
| The time of sign-up and of any change | record-keeping |
What we do not store: we do not write your IP address to your entry, and we do not ask for your exact address, your date of birth, your photo or your phone number.
4. Sensitive data: your gender and the gender you are looking for
Your own gender and the gender of the partner you are looking for together reveal your sexual orientation. This is a special category of personal data under Article 9 of the GDPR. The "non-binary" and "other" options relate to your gender identity; we handle this with extra care too.
We store this data only with your explicit consent (GDPR Article 9(2)(a)). We ask for this consent when you sign up, with a separate checkbox that is not ticked in advance, and we record the time of consent and the version of the wording.
The consent covers the following:
- we count your potential partners based on your answers;
- your answers also count towards other people's match counts – they only see a total number, never your name, your email address or any other data of yours;
- at launch, if you register, this data pre-fills your profile.
We do not use this data for advertising or for building marketing profiles, and we do not pass it to anyone.
Withdrawal. You can withdraw your consent at any time by unsubscribing from the waiting list (section 9) or by writing to to be completed. Because the waiting list does not work without your gender and the gender you are looking for, withdrawal means that your entry is deleted. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of the earlier processing.
5. Our purposes and legal bases
The legal bases are the points of GDPR Article 6(1): (a) consent, (b) performance of a contract (the rewards under the Waiting list – terms of participation), (c) legal obligation, (f) legitimate interest.
| # | Purpose | Data | Legal basis | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Counting potential partners in step one | gender, age, country, town, gender and age looked for | Article 6(1)(b) – at your request, before signing up | not stored |
| 2 | Waiting-list membership and notification of the launch | name, email address, language, time and scope of consent, unsubscribe identifier | Article 6(1)(a) – your consent to the launch notification | until you unsubscribe; at launch, see section 12 |
| 3 | Match count, reward level, being counted in other people's numbers | gender, gender looked for | Article 6(1)(a) and Article 9(2)(a) – explicit consent | as in row 2 |
| 4 | Recording the match count and reward level | age, country, town and its centre, age looked for, match count, reward level, discount | Article 6(1)(b) | as in row 2 |
| 5 | Welcome email with the invite link and the unsubscribe link | name, email address, language, invite code, unsubscribe identifier; the time of sign-up and the country (to calculate the 72-hour deadline and its time zone) | Article 6(1)(b) | as in row 2 |
| 6 | Keeping a record of the invitation reward (section 8) | own invite code, your inviter's code, the invitation's reward level (Premium or Plus), months due | Article 6(1)(b) | as in row 2 |
| 7 | Handing over the reward at launch, pre-filling the profile | registration identifier, the link between the entry and the account, gender, gender looked for, age looked for | Article 6(1)(b); for gender and gender looked for, Article 9(2)(a) | to be completed |
| 8 | Unsubscribe statistics | country, town name, gender, number of days spent on the list – without name, email or identifier | Article 6(1)(f) – evaluating how the waiting list performs | to be completed |
| 9 | Internal statistics (growth by country, town and gender) | aggregates built from the data above | Article 6(1)(f) – planning the launch | as aggregates |
| 10 | Preventing abuse (too many requests, email bombing) | the IP address of the request in the server's memory; the time the welcome email was resent | Article 6(1)(f) – protecting the service and others | we do not write the IP address to the database; see section 12 |
| 11 | Backup | a backed-up copy of the data above | Article 6(1)(f) – preventing data loss | to be completed |
| 12 | Answering enquiries and data subject requests | the correspondence | Article 6(1)(c) – GDPR Articles 12–22; otherwise Article 6(1)(f) | until the matter is closed and any related claims become time-barred |
You can object to the processing based on legitimate interest (rows 8–12) (section 13). We will send you the outcome of the balancing test on request.
6. How do we count how many people you could date?
The calculation is automated and is based on your settings; this is profiling under the GDPR. A person who has signed up counts as a potential partner if all of the following are true at the same time:
- the centre of their town is no more than 50 km from the centre of yours;
- their gender is among the genders you are looking for (if you did not enter a gender to look for, any gender qualifies), and their age falls within the age range you are looking for;
- and the other way round: your gender is among the genders they are looking for, and your age falls within the range they are looking for.
What do you see? We only display the number if it is at least 10; if it is lower, we tell you that you are among the first in your area.
What does the number decide? Your number at the time you sign up determines what reward you get at launch:
| Match count at sign-up | Reward at launch |
|---|---|
| below 50 | 3 months of the Plus plan free, and after that a lasting 50% discount on every plan |
| 50 or more | 1 month of the Plus plan free |
We fix the reward level at the moment you sign up and do not recalculate it later, even if the list grows in the meantime. The detailed conditions of the reward are set out in the Waiting list – terms of participation.
The calculation does not rate you: it does not compute an "attractiveness" score or any other score; it only looks at how many people who have signed up in your area you and they mutually match. If you think the calculation was wrong, write to to be completed: a member of our staff will review it, and you can state your point of view.
7. Emails and unsubscribing
7.1 What emails do we send?
| When | Nature | |
|---|---|---|
| Welcome email | immediately after you sign up; if you sign up again with the same address, we resend it, but no more than once an hour | confirmation of your sign-up |
| Launch-related notifications | before and at launch | based on your consent |
| The launch email with your personal registration link | at launch | based on your consent; needed to claim the reward |
What the welcome email contains: we thank you for signing up; we send you your personal invite link, which you can pass on to anyone, anywhere, and we explain what you get if someone signs up through it and starts using Yambrella after launch (section 8); we promise to write to you at launch; and it includes the unsubscribe link.
If the welcome email is prepared within 72 hours of your sign-up, it also gives the exact end of those 72 hours, in your country's time zone: for each friend who signs up through your link by then you get a Premium month, and for each friend who signs up later, a Plus month. A welcome email sent after the 72 hours (for example, if you sign up again) mentions only the Plus month.
The launch-related notifications are about when and where Yambrella opens. In the launch email you receive your personal registration link and the deadline by which you can claim your reward (section 10).
We do not send newsletters. Apart from the notifications about the launch, we would only send emails with other content (for example, about news) if you had given your explicit consent to this with a separate checkbox that is not ticked in advance (Grt. (Act XLVIII of 2008 on commercial advertising) § 6). We do not currently ask for such consent.
7.2 How can you unsubscribe?
- At the bottom of every email we send there is an unsubscribe link. It works without logging in: it takes you to a page where you can leave the list with one button.
- From your email program, too: every email we send contains the standard header that lets email programs show their own "Unsubscribe" button, and this works with one click.
- By email or by post, too: write to to be completed or to the postal address to be completed. In that case we delete your entry without delay after your request arrives.
Unsubscribing stops all our emails and means that your entry is deleted (section 9).
8. Your invite link
The personal invite link you receive in the welcome email contains only your invite code. You decide whom you pass it on to and how – in a message, by email or on social media, as often as you like. We do not send emails to your friends, and we neither ask for nor receive their addresses, and there is no page where you could enter addresses to invite.
What do we record when someone signs up through your link? In their entry, your invite code, and whether the invitation is worth a Premium or a Plus month to you: Premium if your friend signed up within 72 hours of your own sign-up, Plus otherwise. We decide this automatically when your friend signs up, by comparing the times of the two sign-ups, and we never recalculate it. If the code in the link belongs to nobody on the waiting list (for example, because the person who passed the link on has since unsubscribed), we record neither a code nor a reward level.
The month for an invitation is due only if your friend starts using Yambrella after launch; the details are in section 7 of the Waiting list – terms of participation. Your friend is a subscriber too, so this notice covers their data.
Legal basis. The invitation reward is recorded under the terms of participation (Article 6(1)(b); section 5, row 6).
9. Unsubscribing: what is deleted and what remains?
If you unsubscribe, we delete your entry immediately and permanently: your name, your email address, your town and its coordinates, your gender, your age, your search settings, your invite code, your reward level and the months due for your invitations.
Before deletion we write a single statistical record: your country, the name of your town, your gender and how many days you were on the list. It contains no name, email address, coordinates or identifier of any kind, and we do not link it with any other data. Because in a small town, combined with a less frequently chosen gender option, such a record may be rare, we use the statistics only in aggregate (for example, how many people unsubscribed in a given period), and we analyse the time spent on the list only in time bands, without the town. Retention: to be completed.
What you should know before unsubscribing:
- You lose your place, the reward recorded when you signed up, and your invite code. The links you have passed on will no longer earn you a reward.
- We do not keep a "do not write to me again" list. Because we delete your address completely, we cannot remember that you do not want emails from us. If someone later signs your address up again, you may receive emails from us again – in that case you can unsubscribe again with one click.
10. What happens at launch?
Your data stays where it is. The launched Yambrella uses the same server and database as the waiting list; we do not export or copy your entry, and we do not pass it to anyone.
Claiming the reward. At launch we send you an email with your personal registration link. You can claim your reward for 90 days from launch:
- if you register through your link, we link your registration to your entry;
- if you register without the link, we link your entry to your account when you confirm your account's email address and it matches the address you gave on the waiting list.
If your reward level at sign-up entitles you to it, we credit the Plus months (Premium months if you register within three days of the launch email) and the lasting discount when you register. The details are set out in the Waiting list – terms of participation.
What is carried over to your profile? Your gender, the gender you are looking for and the age range you are looking for pre-fill your first profile; you can change them. Not carried over: your name (at registration we ask for your surname and first name), your age (in the profile we ask for your date of birth), and your town (in the profile you give an exact date location).
If you do not register. Without registration nothing is carried over anywhere. After the 90 days open for claiming the reward, your entry can no longer be used for anything; its retention is covered in section 12.
After registration, your data is covered by the Yambrella Privacy notice.
11. Processors and data transfers
| Processor | Task | Data processed | Place of processing |
|---|---|---|---|
| to be completed | operating the website, the servers and the database | all waiting-list data | to be completed |
| Resend (a US-based company) | delivering the emails | name, email address, language, the content of the email (including your personal links) | to be completed |
We conclude a data processing agreement under Article 28 of the GDPR with both processors; they may use the data only on our instructions and for our purposes.
Transfers outside the EEA. Resend is a US-based company, so the data needed to deliver the emails may be transferred outside the European Economic Area. The place of the transfer and its safeguard: to be completed. You can request a copy of the document providing the safeguard at to be completed. No other transfer to a third country takes place.
There are no other recipients. We download the GeoNames database used to identify towns to our own server; GeoNames receives no data from us. We do not sell your data, and we do not pass it to advertisers. An authority or court may request data from us on a legal basis; in that case we hand over only the data lawfully requested.
Our staff see the list of people who have signed up on a separate administration interface, and they produce statistics (how many people signed up by country, town and gender), and they also send the launch-related notifications from there.
12. How long do we keep your data?
| Data | Retention |
|---|---|
| Your answers in step one | not stored |
| Your waiting-list entry | until you unsubscribe or withdraw your consent; if you stay until the list is closed: to be completed |
| Your entry, if you registered at launch | after the reward is handed over, among your account data, as set out in the Privacy notice |
| Unsubscribe statistical record | to be completed |
| The IP address used to filter out too many requests | only in the server's memory, for the short time window of the limit; it is not written to the database |
| Technical logs | to be completed |
| Backups | to be completed; until then we do not use or restore deleted data |
From the moment sign-ups open, an encrypted backup of the waiting-list database is made. If a backup ever had to be restored, we would carry out again the unsubscribes that happened in the meantime.
13. Your rights and remedies
You can exercise your rights by emailing to be completed or by post (to be completed). We reply free of charge within one month at the latest; if the request is complex, this period may be extended by a further two months, and we will tell you so within the first month. If the request comes from the email address you gave on the waiting list, that is usually enough to verify your identity.
- Access (GDPR Article 15): we tell you what data of yours we store and give you a copy of it.
- Rectification (Article 16): we correct inaccurate data. We fix the reward level from the number at the time of sign-up, so changing your answers afterwards does not change it.
- Erasure (Article 17): the quickest way is to unsubscribe (section 9); on request we also delete your entry by email.
- Restriction (Article 18) and data portability (Article 20): in the cases defined by law.
- Withdrawal of consent (Article 7(3)): at any time, by unsubscribing or by email; this means that your entry is deleted (section 4).
Right to object (GDPR Article 21). You can object at any time, on grounds relating to your particular situation, to the processing based on our legitimate interest (section 5, rows 8–12). In that case we no longer process the data, unless we demonstrate compelling legitimate grounds for it, or it is necessary for the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims.
Complaint to the authority. You can lodge a complaint with the Hungarian National Authority for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (NAIH):
- registered office: 1055 Budapest, Falk Miksa utca 9-11.
- postal address: 1363 Budapest, Pf. 9.
- telephone: +36 (1) 391 1400
- email: ugyfelszolgalat@naih.hu
- website: https://naih.hu
If you live or work in another Member State of the European Union, you can also lodge a complaint with the data protection authority there.
Judicial remedy. If your rights are infringed, you can go to court; at your choice, you can also bring the action before the regional court (törvényszék) for your place of residence or your place of stay (Infotv. (Act CXII of 2011 on informational self-determination and freedom of information) § 23).
14. Minors
Only persons aged 18 or over may sign up for the waiting list; you enter your age yourself, and we do not verify it. If we become aware that someone who has signed up is under 18, we delete their entry.
15. Security
We receive the data over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, only authorised members of our staff have access to the waiting-list database. Your unsubscribe identifier appears in every email we send and your registration identifier in the launch email, so we cannot store these in a non-reversible form. Anyone who gets hold of such a link can unsubscribe you or, with the link in the launch email, claim your reward. So do not forward our emails with these links left in them – except for the invite link, which is specifically meant to be passed on.
In the event of a personal data breach, we notify NAIH within 72 hours of becoming aware of it, unless the breach is unlikely to result in a risk; if it poses a high risk to your rights, we also notify you without delay.
16. Cookies
The waiting-list pages do not use cookies. We store only one setting in your browser (in
local storage, as yambrella-theme): your choice of light or dark theme, until you delete
it from your browser. This is strictly necessary to keep a setting you asked for, so it
needs no consent, and we show no cookie banner. We do not use analytics, advertising or
tracking tools. The details are set out in the
Cookie and local storage notice.
17. Changes and governing language
If we change this notice materially – in particular, if we wanted to use your data for a new purpose – we will notify you by email before the change. We process your data for a new purpose only if we have informed you of it in advance and, where required, asked for your consent.
This notice was prepared in Hungarian. If a translation into another language is also available, the Hungarian version governs for users living in Hungary.
